The Perfect Cape

Outfit: Cape - Marshalls ($20), Boots - Kenneth Cole ($90), Watch - Vintage ($2), Ring - F21 ($7)

After searching and searching I finally found it, the perfect cape. It was over a year ago when I saw the infamous Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl wearing a gorgeous green one, that I was hooked. I had found a few over the years, but none ever seemed to be the right price.

Last weekend my Mom begged to go to Michaels for a 50% off Christmas sale. After a long day of work, I reluctantly agreed to go. After spending about an hour and a half of searching for the perfect decorations we wandered over to Marshalls for quick looksie. Even at Marshalls I naturally go straight to the sale section to see what goodies I can find. Sitting in middle of the sales coats I found this fabulous cape on sale for $20. I instantly knew without trying it on that I'd be buying it, but I tried it on anyways and it was love at first wear.

I love that this coat it so simply camel and black. AND that the black is a leather trim. This cape is a little different from many capes I have tried on. Usually, capes have little slits you put your arms through, however this one lets you arms fall and has pockets. I love this feature, because the cape falls beautifully. I am still in awe that I only paid $20 for this cape because I probably would have paid $100 for something so perfect. It just goes to show that you really never know what you can find at discount shops like Marshalls. There were 3 more of these capes left at the store, so if you find yourself in Fremont, I suggest you snatch this cape up. It is absolutely perfect.

How My Scarf Got Its Groove Back

Outfit: Scarf - Pacific Beach Boutique ($8), Poncho - H&M ($20), Socks - Marshalls ($6), Boots - Cathy Jean ($100)

I love wearing scarves year round because they can always be that added element that can finish out any outfit. I also find it entertaining to discover new ways to tie or wear the many scarves in my collection. I picked this tribal scarf up in San Diego at a boutique near the beach. When I tried it on in the store I threw it around my neck (like in the first picture) and I loved how full it was for not being a knitted scarf.

The other day it was cooler out than I expected so I took my scarf and covered my arms like a shawl. When I looked in the mirror I was delighted at the effect it gave. It looked like another piece of clothing rather than a scarf. Almost as if it was a lightweight, billow sleeved, open top. It completely changed the look of my scarf, to the point a few people came up asking me what exactly it was and where I purchased it.

I find it so exciting to discover new ways of wearing clothing that you already own. It's also quite nice on your wallet :)

Formal Introductions - With Love

For my brand new blog, I thought it only appropriate I share a few things about me and what The Fleur de Fashion is really all about. Ever since I was young I can remember stealing my Step-moms already read Vogue and Elle magazines, thinking "I want that, and that, and that, and that (etc. etc.)". As I got older, well, it only got worse. When I got my first job, my paychecks went to clothes and purses and jewelry. My best friend and I would skip class to shop. I was hooked.

So, now that I am a recent graduate from San Diego State University and have moved to the Bay Area I thought it time I start sharing my fashion finds with you, in hopes that some of my passion will rub off on you.

To be clear, I am a normal girl. I don't live on the Upper East Side or write a sex blog in NYC. While I wish my closet was full of Chanel, YSL, Louis Vuitton, Louboutin and Alexander Wang, in actuality, its filled with H&M, Forever 21, Cotton On and other items from stores or boutiques any girl can afford. That being said, anyone can find fabulous pieces for their wardrobe for low prices and still look like a page out of a magazine. In fact, the dress I'm wearing above I found for $5 at H&M! I love this dress because you can make it casual with flats or I like to dress it up sometimes with my red patent leather pumps.

I'm so excited to start this venture and am going to try hard to post many looks, give tips, and let you know about upcoming sales. Here is my first tip:

In fashion, fear NOTHING, you'd be surprised how clothing
on racks can look on.In fact, the more interesting, the better!

With Love,

Courtney

P.S. I love my puppy Chewy :)
